HomeBrew
I've always loved a good beer, however growing up in puritan America I was deprived of the wonders that were to be found around the globe. Mankind has been making beer for nearly 8000 years now. Which makes me wonder why beer companies in America shunned the flavors of malts and hops, you know the ones that make a beer a beer. Who wants to drink flavorless rice/corn water? A Guinness may be too dark for most but have you actually ever held a Bass Pale Ale, Coors and bud side by side?
Because I always wanted to make a batch of beer, much like my friend Kevin did. He made a wonderful Hefeweisen and had cute labels made. He visited some business that walks you through the process, and you take half the goods. Well they went under, but when I met some new co-workers, and they shared the fact they Home Brewed together. The day sounded great and I knew I found a cool hobby.
After much reading Charlie Papazians Book and many questions to my co-workers and posting on various internet forums, was a great way to start. Top that with great beer forums like www.TastyBrew.com and you can learn a lot fast. I went to my LHBS (Local Home Brew Store) and browsed around for quite a while. Came home with a kit and made the first so-so batch. It was fun, but I knew I could do better. I was invited over for an All Grain brewing session at my friends. Unfortunately I had a broken ankle, so I couldn't help much. The Oatmeal Stout they made was very tasty, but ran into a carbonation issue once completed. The day was long and cool. Good friends, good beer and no work. :) The process was much more natural and in the same time I took for 5 gallons, they made 10 gallons.
I was soon on a mission to build the equipment needed for All Grain brewing. Here you will find my procedures and equipment lists. Also you will find some minor brewing instructions, but really more of an overview than a full step by step process. Someday I will post some nice recipes formulated by my brewing partners and me, will be posted too. ;)
